The legendary mountain forest under the Waxensteinen is fun for the whole family. Turmangerblick, Königs- und Bärenwald, the Jägerstand and Wildererschluf are just some of the stations you can explore in a fun way. Not forgetting the numerous legends and stories about the Höllental valley. A brochure with all the legends and stations is available free of charge from the tourist information office. The walk takes about 2 hours, the route is 3 km long with slight inclines. There are plenty of opportunities to stop for a snack along the way.
The landscape around Grainau offers a wide range of geological sights. Take your time and explore the landscape of our village, which was shaped by the landslide. This was certainly an inferno at the time. You can still see the effects of the landslide when the rock masses overflowed.
If you want to understand things, you first have to name them. This is exactly what our ancestors did when they named the fields. Thus, field names are "eloquent witnesses of old and oldest folklore", as Hans Holzner describes it in his collection of field names in Grainau. The importance of such names in the past can be seen from the fact that a precise land register with field names has only existed since around 1820.
On the "Climate & Water in Transition" themed trail, you can discover the various effects of climate change up close at 10 stations. Observe the reaction of plants to higher temperatures, follow the retreat of the Zugspitze glaciers, find out why climate change pleases the bark beetles but stresses the spruce trees, experience the power of nature and much more. In between, there is also plenty of time for relaxation: treat yourself to a breather on the loungers on the sunny Höhenrain.
And as a big extra: the web app for the trail
With the Lauschtour app, you can discover the themed trail in a particularly exciting, personal way! Let scientists and people from the region bring you closer to the visible traces of climate change in the Alps. Simply download the app on your smartphone, call it up, start hiking and listen.
